| "A
three percent drop in listings in the first few days of
eBay's price increase." |
|
|
From
Wednesday 20/02/2008 eBay (otherwise known
as Feebay) has increased seller fees. The
increase in fees has caused outrage with
sellers.
The three percent drop in listings that eBay is
already experiencing is more than likely due to
sellers who have called a boycott of eBay last
week.
The fee changes include increases to the final
value fees sellers pay to eBay upon completion of
a transaction. These changes that have come into
effect at eBay have the potential to impact
smaller sellers more so than high-volume sellers.
And does eBay really care? No, eBay appear to be
ready to court high-volume sellers more heavily in
2008.
So far eBay has been standing firm with its fee
changes. Analysts think that eBay may see the
protesting sellers as a less profitable nuisance
and may not mind seeing them depart.
With that likely being the case, eBay sellers who
are dissatisfied with eBay's lack of service and ridiculous
high prices, need to do the calculations of
staying or permanently stepping away.
There are plenty of other sites that have lower
fees and are producing better results for sellers.
The best alternative to eBay is: ebid,
bidsell
and bidmate
there are other sites such as Amazon which offer
an auction service. Whilst more active
sellers may want to consider the option of
creating and operating an ecommerce site instead.
Good Luck to all sellers who have chosen to
boycott eBay. Quite frankly its the right choice.
eBay need to wake up and understand that the small
sellers are the ones who made eBay where it is
today. Without the small sellers we can all hope
to see eBay closed by the end of 2010.
